Clearing trees

May 16, 2015 Erik Johnson

The house will be sitting on the edge of the field, half in the woods and half out in the field, so we have been cleaning out this portion of woods preparing for the excavator.

Lots of scrub brush to get through…luckily we had help.

Here it is cleared down to the trees.

And here it is after cutting down the trees.

It might be hard to see in the pictures but there is a nice drop in grade moving into the woods from the field toward the river. The main level of the house will step down with part of this drop, not only bringing you from field to woods through the house but literally down into the land as well. There is a natural draw toward the river, even though it is not visible from this location. Not only because it is a watershed but because the river as a place has a magnetism to it. This is especially true with our kids. The house will participate and direct in this natural movement from the field down toward the river.
